After two weeks of really nice weather, it looks like sticky, humid, hot summertime has finally arrived. Summer in Columbus means lots of festivals, and the biggest and best is Comfest. We will have a booth there, we don't know where we'll be yet, but we will have a huge vinyl "What the Rock?!" banner printed up with Bryan "Bam Bam" Grey's awesome artwork on it. Thank you, Bryan, you rock!!! Comfest takes place in Goodale Park from June 27-29th. It's free, and there's tons of great bands playing, and it's a great vibe and good people. If you make it down to Comfest, please stop by our booth and say "Hello".
Gallery Hop is this weekend, along with the Arts Festival and the Park Street Festival. This Gallery Hop, we have an art show opening entitled "Get Creative" featuring two 9 year old artists who do mixed media work. Nora Bell is the daughter of emerging Columbus artists Sharon and Tawd Bell. Her friend, Orb Allofusien, is the second artist. They are both self-taught, live in C-bus, and love animals. The show will run until June 30th. Please stop by and take a look at what they have created.
We are still accepting your "Rockfessions". Please tell us your rock and roll confession, write it on a decorated postcard, and bring down to What the Rock?! during business hours. Here is an example of a "Rockfession"
They can be funny, embarrassing, heartfelt, etc. The more creative, the better. Come on all you crafty people out there--bring us your Rockfessions!!! For every postcard we receive, $1 goes to Little Kids Rock--a charity that gives free instruments and music lessons to low income children in public schools. Your Rockfession will also be posted in the Rockfessions Gallery, and you will be eligible for great prizes when you submit your rockfession. Let's help raise money for these kids!!
This weekend, What the Rock?! will also be collecting donations for the Rachel Widmowski Fund, as part of the Hope Weekend. Rachel was the victim of a hit and run accident that occured at Haiku last month. There will over 60 merchants participating in the Hope Weekend, along with a silent auction of Rachel's work (she was an art student at OSU) and a benefit concert with 6 local bands. For more information go to the Hope Weekend website. What the Rock?! is also part of the HaikuHelp craft collective on etsy. Several Columbus area crafters are donating the sales of their handmade items to help Rachel. 100% of all money raised goes to the Rachel Widmowski Fund. Click here to see the etsy page
